Wendy Walford is Head of Climate Risk for Legal & General, a UK based financial services provider. Legal and General is a global provider of retirement solutions to corporates and individuals, and our skills lie in asset management and origination, longevity risk and technological innovation.    As Head of climate risk for the Group, Wendy supports the delivery of the group’s climate goals and commitments, with a specific responsibility for the development of the group wider risk management framework to support inclusion of the financial risks from climate change. Her role also spans the Group’s strategic response to Climate risk, the governance framework, and the  metrics and targets.

Marcello Estevão is the Global Director of the World Bank Group’s Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice (MTI). In this position, Mr. Estevão leads a large team of country economists, macroeconomists, and fiscal policy, debt, and macro-modeling experts. He is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the global analytical work on fiscal policy, debt policy, macroeconomics, and economic growth; for coordinating the strategic direction of MTI and implementing it; for helping to shape and oversee MTI’s country/regional programs; and for mobilizing staff to work more effectively across  Equitable  Growth, Finance and Institutions (EFI) and other Global Practices. Mr. Estevão is Brazilian, holds a PhD in Economics from MIT, Cambridge, MA, and has published extensively in refereed journals, books, policy reports, and the print media.

James Sproule was appointed as Chief Economist of Handelsbanken UK in May 2020. For much of 2019 he was a Senior Business Adviser to Prime Minister Boris Johnson prior to which he worked with the think tanks UnHerd and the Legatum Institute; between 2014-2017 he was the Chief Economist and Director of Policy at the Institute of Directors. Before the IoD he was head of UK Research with Accenture.  He started his financial career as a merchant bank economist working with Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort, and eventually helped to found the boutique bank Augusta and Company.  James started his working life as a signals officer in the Royal Navy, where he remains an honorary Captain.  James Sproule has sat on the European advisory board for the strategic consultancy L.E.K.; he stood for Parliament at the 2005 general election; and was for seven years a visiting fellow in the Department of Management Economics at the London School of Economics.

Hetal Patel is Head of Climate Investment Risk at Phoenix Group where he’s responsible for assessing the exposure of the Group’s investment portfolios to climate risks and opportunities and for developing and setting targets for its decarbonisation ambitions.   Prior to joining Phoenix in 2020, Hetal had a rich background in institutional investments. He spent 9 years at Legal & General where he held various roles supporting its With Profits Fund, latterly leading the team responsible for its investment strategy and fund manager oversight. He also worked in the pensions sector, initially as an Investment Consultant with KPMG and then as an in-house Investment Manager for Lloyds Banking Group supporting its various heritage pensions schemes. Hetal started his career in banking as a bond trader with Goldman Sachs working on the European Government Bonds desk.    Hetal is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and sits on its Finance and Investments Practice Board.

Ben is the ABI’s Manager for Climate Change and Open Data policy. As part of this, he leads a cross-organisational taskforce on climate change and co-ordinates the ABI’s work on data issues, including the ongoing response to the FCA’s work on Open Finance. Prior to taking up this role in 2021, Ben worked in the Director General’s office as DG Business Manager, focussing on policy and market analysis. As part of this, he was part of the project team that launched the Covid-19 Support Fund. He joined the ABI in 2015 and was previously Senior Policy Adviser for Motor and Liability – where he was responsible for the ABI’s work on automated driving, the ECJ Vnuk judgement, CMC regulation and road safety. He was then the ABI’s Brexit Manager on a secondment basis between March and September 2018. Before joining the ABI, he was Research Manager at EUK Consulting, having previously worked at DeHavilland and in an MP’s office.

Before joining Aviva, David worked in investment banking, most recently at J.P. Morgan where he spent seven years providing strategic risk management and asset-liability management advice for corporates and financial institutions. David holds a DPhil in applied mathematics from Oxford University and has been a visiting research fellow at the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
